Thank you for all the smiles, the laughter and the compliments to our amazing, passionate staff. And yes, thank you for the feedback as well on how we can continue improving the guest experience. Thank you for keeping the fire burning in the Lookout Warming Hut on cold days. Thank you for driving up slick roads on powder days, and packing the kids in the car to arrive from Southern California for a long weekend that is never long enough. Thank you for overcoming any fears and taking your first-ever lesson on Glacier Glade. Thank you for telling your friends about your experiences on Facebook. But mostly, thank you for simply visiting Eagle Point.
And in 2016/2017, you visited in record numbers. With the most “skier visits” in our recorded history, the slopes were our busiest yet (we all know that a busy day at Eagle Point is anything but crowded). Sure, having amazing snow helped. Eagle Point and many other well-deserving resorts throughout the west had one of the snowiest and most exhilarating seasons in recent memory. But I’d like to think that it was something less lucky or random than what mother nature provided us. In my heart, I believe this season was continued acknowledgement that a resort can exist and thrive as an alternative to the glitz and glamour of the steeply priced mega-resort experience while providing exceptional, friendly service. An experience with affordable lift ticket prices and ski-in-ski-out lodging, with quality food and amenities, all connected to the pristine natural surroundings. Its proof that Eagle Point not only has a place in the world but is something that people actively yearn for and seek out.
I offer all of this on behalf of myself and my wonderful staff to say thank you for spending your time and hard earned money with us, and taking home lasting memories on our snowy terrain and from around the village.
Of course, I knew Eagle Point was a special place when myself and some friends purchased the resort 7 years ago. There are those few times when a vision becomes a reality, and it took a lot of vision to rehabilitate the dilapidated resort (albeit with a storied history) and get it to where it is today (we’re not done, though). The vision was fueled by so many passionate skiers and riders from local Beaver County, across southern Utah, down from Salt Lake, from Las Vegas, Arizona, and increasingly from California and beyond as well. Every season has been special, but this one might have topped them all.
Some highlights of the season:
- From opening day through closing day on April 2, the snow conditions allowed us to open all runs and all lifts each day that we were open.
- #EaglePointFridays developed somewhat of a cult following.
- A consistent base of over 60”, regularly refreshed by a total season snowfall of 327 inches.
- Many first-time guests were introduced to the high-quality, high-value ski and riding experience uniquely offered by Eagle Point where we measure above most on the acres per person quotient.
- Our new Pisten Bully snowcat arrived in February, painting beautiful corduroy on the groomers.
- Some late nights, and tough mornings, courtesy of way-too-fun Canyonside Lodge events.
- The first few families made Aspen Crest their second home, and many others purchased condo and home properties to make their year round enjoyment of Eagle Point more permanent and lasting.
Exciting new developments are in the works such as a model home at Aspen Crest, and other new ski area improvements that will be announced in the near future. And for those wondering, yes, we are working with the telecommunication companies to improve cell phone service. But really, didn’t we all enjoy mercifully disconnecting for a few moments from the frenzied world so that we could reconnect with nature and each other, at Eagle Point?
In the meantime, please stay healthy, don’t let the skis and boards get too dusty or lonely, invite mother nature to bless us again come December, and we’ll see you next season.
